The backstory
It's a CHRISTMAS song!
The lyrics were originally written as a poem back in 2001 when we were having a bit of a resurgence during Covid.
Sam created a [then] Volume One Facebook post with the poem to say happy Christmas to all our followers.
The music was something Ricky was working on around the same time, but the connection was never made to put these two together until this year.
Back then the working title was 'Electric Waltz', which became 'Electric Christmas'.
Ricky has been working on a new game for some time and was looking for ways to create the music for that game using material he had already created over the years,
and started using Suno to make the compositions. The idea struck during this process to merge the Spirit of Christmas lyrics with the Electric Waltz music so he uploaded both
to Suno and WHAM! a new song was born! It took some time to get the Christmas feel and play around with the traditional Christmas elements like
bells and chimes etc, but eventually Spirit of Christmas was ready.
It was so surprisingly well received (especially since it was released August 28th) that Sam sought help to translate the poem to Romanian and Spanish, replacing traditional
British festive ideas with traditional Romanian and Spanish and re-jigging the lyrics to make sense.
You never know, it might even be translated to more languages soon - let's see how it does!
Lyrics
Of bright fairy lights and a backdrop of snow.
Embers of fires roaring in hearths
And sounds of the children, their giggles and laughs.
Stockings are pinned and cards are hung high.
There’s an aroma of fruit and baking mince pies.
And turkey, and pudding with thruppence or six,
Marshmallow, hot chocolate thrown into the mix.
The scent of the tree, of wood and sweet pine,
Presents below. Some yours and some mine.
A fairy above, or a bright shining star,
To lure the three kings from a kingdom afar.
Tinsel a-plenty, and baubles a-glistening,
The silent night echoes whilst children are listening,
all tucked up and safe and as warm as can be,
for Santa’s arrival, to leave gifts by the tree.
The Big Day’s arrived and it’s Christmas morning!
Children are rising, sleepy and yawning.
But it doesn’t last long! And they’re charging downstairs
because there’s gifts to exchange and gift-wrap to tear!!
Whooping with glee and excitement and gasps,
Bright beaming smiles and loud belly laughs.
Gifts from the heart, overflowing with joy
and filled to the brim, hearts of all girls and of boys.
It’s a promise of hope and a magical time,
spent with family and friends under mistletoe, and with wine.
It’s all about love, and giving and sharing
The Spirit of Christmas, togetherness and caring.
